Delphi aims to lead fuel delivery market

LAS VEGAS — Delphi is taking a new look at fuel delivery yet again, positioning itself to be ahead of the market as the new year comes into view.

Delphi kicked off its AAPEX 2013 with its annual press conference, led by Lucia V. Moretti, president of Delphi Product & Service Solutions, during which she highlighted the company’s technology and globalization focuses for the coming year.

“We have the visibility to see market trends” and can see how they will affect the aftermarket, she adds about the two focuses. “The car parc is truly becoming global,” Moretti says, adding that global platforms will become 53 percent of the car parc by 2020.

One such changing trend is on gasoline direct injection (GDI). Moretti explains that the body design and spray pattern are very specific, and there is an additional pump that will affect the repair. It is important that the technician can go to a supplier with OE experience, she notes, to help them with the repairs.

“Technicians will need new tooling and software in order to diagnose GDI and make repairs,” she said in the press conference. “Our goal is to become the leader in fuel deliver products in North America.”

Moretti explains that Delphi will do so by offering all makes, full covers by the first half of 2014. “We will support technicians with new tools that make their job easier,” she notes, adding that Delphi.com/fuel is one such resource. “This commitment is incredible import to us. It demonstrates the growth in our company.”

Delphi also is expanding its ignition coil business, as well as continuing a focus on telematics. “We continue to believe telematics will change the way we do business in the aftermarket,” Moretti says, adding it affects loyalty and can help capture under- and non-performed maintenance.
