The White House, DOT partner with TireRack.com to promote tire safety, efficiency and savings

TireRack.com has partnered with the White House and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) on its TireWise campaign and corresponding Tire Safety Month.

TireRack.com, America’s largest independent tire tester and consumer-direct source for tires, wheels and performance accessories, has partnered with the White House and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) on its TireWise campaign and corresponding Tire Safety Month (Dec. 9, 2014 – Jan. 9, 2015) in support of the current Administration’s efforts to raise consumer awareness about tire safety, cut carbon pollution and save money at the pump.

Together with a select lineup of tire manufacturers, fuel distributors and tire retailers, TireRack.com commits its full support to the newly announced initiative by displaying the campaign information, infographic and Be TireWise Guide prominently on its website. Drivers who visit www.TireRack.com and its social media channels such as www.facebook.com/tirerack and www.twitter.com/tire_rack can also continue to access free consumer tire safety, research and maintenance information as well as unbiased, reliable and real-world test results to make an informed purchase decision.

According to the  DOT’s tire report, “There are roughly 11,000 tire-related vehicle crashes in the U.S. each year and many of these crashes can be prevented through proper tire maintenance—including tire inflation, balance, alignment and rotation—and understanding tire labels, aging, recalls and complaints.”

“We are honored to be a partner in this campaign and applaud the current Administration’s efforts to educate the motoring public about the importance of understanding how the rubber meets the road,” said Matt Edmonds, vice president, TireRack.com. “For more than 35 years we have made it our priority to keep drivers safe on the roads by providing the tools they need to research, buy and install tires with confidence.”

Also according to the DOT report, “Proper tire maintenance combined with the use of low rolling resistance tires could save a driver up to $80 per year, and avoid up to 560 pounds of annual carbon dioxide pollution, equivalent to nearly 600 miles of emission-free driving.” In support of the DOT’s goal to “finalize a rule establishing a tire fuel efficiency consumer information program by 2017 so consumers can identify the most energy efficient tires,” TireRack.com has highlighted specific test results pertaining to this category here.

TireRack.com’s experts drive on 35-40 different tires every test season (May to September), putting them through a battery of track and road tests that evaluate real-world and performance capabilities at the limits in wet, dry and winter conditions. For more information on TireRack.com’s testing format, past results and free consumer tire safety information and data based on how you drive, where you drive and what you drive, visit www.TireRack.com.
