Hankook offers parents back to school safety tips for the school-age driver

For parents who are no longer the captain of the carpool, Hankook offers a number of driving tips to promote safety and minimize the distractions for school-age drivers.

With American families back in the school routine, parents are handing over the keys to send their driving-age children off to the open road.  For parents who are no longer the captain of the carpool, Hankook offers a number of driving tips to promote safety and minimize the distractions for school-age drivers.

Prioritize – Instead of stressing over a low battery on their cell phone, make sure school-age drivers consider more important factors such as the overlooked spare tire that’s been hiding in the trunk for months, if not years. The Hankook Tire Gauge Index – a quarterly survey of Americans’ driving habits – revealed that 30% of drivers between the ages of 18 and 35 have yet to check the tire pressure of their spare. Remind them that if they thought a flat tire was bad, a flat SPARE tire is even worse.

The car is not a kitchen – The Hankook Tire Gauge Index found that 51% of drivers between the ages of 18 and 35 eat at least one meal a week in their car. This is alarming data, considering a new study from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that shows a staggering 80% of all car accidents and 65% of near misses are caused by distracted drivers who are more focused on their sandwiches than the road.

Texting can wait – According to the Hankook Tire Gauge Index, 28% of adults between the ages of 18 and 35 are still in the dangerous habit of texting while driving. Remind your young driver that texting can wait and that both hands should be on the wheel at all times.

Choose the right tire – Choosing the most appropriate, durable tire is crucial. Tires that offer durability and improved handling like the Ultra-High Performance All-Season Ventus S1 noble2 can be the best choice when preparing your young driver for the more busy seasons ahead.
