  • Ford or Mazda vehicles equipped with the FNR5/FS5A-EL transaxle may encounter solenoid performance diagnostic trouble codes before or after overhaul. These trouble codes may be misleading if using previous information for the 4F27E as it is almost identical to the FNR5.
  • This problem vehicle was a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria 4.6L V8 with a complaint of sometimes being hard to start. The retired owner of this Ford does not drive it much. In fact, this vehicle only had 25,000 miles on the clock.

  • There is a growing shortage of younger technicians who want to get into automotive repair as a career. According to the Manpower Group, “Hardest to Fill Survey for 2013,” automotive mechanics (technicians) are among the hardest positions to fill in the U.S. 
  • In this particular instance, a tech called to tell me they had a 2012 Mitsubishi that had an Antilock Braking System (ABS) light illuminated on the dash and they couldn’t seem to find the problem. I arrived at the shop thinking that the vehicle in question was a car, but it turned out to be a medium duty truck, 2012 Mitsubishi Fuso FE160!
  • Ford also had a similar procedure sheet for these engines when they had performance concerns, and the technicians had to fill them in for warranty as well. These sheets worked well to find concerns in a timely manner.
  • The fact is most people find it very difficult to embrace an entire message, as they don’t feel comfortable with the change they will have to go through to see the message to fruition.  This is the real reason why it didn’t work for them.

  • Toyota’s U660E mounted to a V6 engine and the U760/1E with the L4 is a front wheel drive transmission. It utilizes 7 solenoids to achieve 6 forward gears along with flex lock up control.
  • About four or five years ago, John Parmenter from Centereach Transmission revealed a no Park problem that could occur with a Nissan RE5R05A Transmission. 
  • The CVT VT20/25E transmission (figure 1) was used in two Saturn vehicles; the 2003 to 2005 Ion and the 2003 to 2004 Vue. Overseas it was used in the 2002-2004 Opel Vectra. 
  • The Chevy Volt is an extended range vehicle that is similar to a hybrid vehicle since it also uses an internal combustion engine (ICE). Although the Volt’s ICE is not used in the same way as a conventional hybrid’s ICE, but rather uses the ICE as a generator to charge the HV battery.
