Volkswagen is fighting a diesel emissions cheating scandal after U.S. regulators alleged the company programmed some 500,000 vehicles with illicit software to manipulate diesel emissions, as reported by CNN.
The company has since admited to using the same software on 11 million vehicles worldwide.
Volkswagen is now setting aside $7.2 billion to cover the anticipated costs of the scandal fallout. A recall of the impacted vehicles has been ordered.
The affected models include 2009-2015 VW Jettas, Beetles and Golfs, 2014-2015 Passats and the Audi A3 from 2009-2015. CleanDiesel automobile owners have filed a class action suit against Volkswagen. NBC News reports further on the Volkswagen scandal here.
