Off-road performance is also enhanced by a transmission that can be started in second gear, a center differential in the two-range transfer case that has a lock button, and adjustable rear air springs and sway bar stiffness.
The V8 engine is the same as that in other Toyota trucks. Other than having to replace the lifters for valve adjustment, most maintenance is fairly routine. The timing spec given is for checking with a scan tool; without the tool, timing is 5 to 15 degrees BTDC. With a dual air conditioning system, the refrigerant charge is 28.2 ± 1 oz (800 ± 30g). With a single A/C system, the charge is 22.9 ± 1 oz (650 ± 30g).
