This is the second year for the second-generation RX330, which is the direct successor to the earlier unibody RX300, and it's packed with technology. Unfortunately, that means some otherwise routine jobs are complicated.
This is the second year for the second-generation RX330, which is the direct successor to the earlier unibody RX300, and it's packed with technology. Unfortunately, that means some otherwise routine jobs are complicated.

The rear seat and carpet must be removed to remove the fuel pump, and the whole windshield wiper assembly must be removed to adjust the valves and access the injectors on the rear cylinder bank. Also, before disconnecting the battery, know that you'll have to initialize the adaptive headlights, power windows, power sunroof and power rear door. The procedures are available as service bulletins.

If equipped with air suspension, before lifting the vehicle, turn the ignition switch on, turn off the height control switch on the dashboard, and make sure the "OFF" light is illuminated. When you turn it back on, make sure ride height is correct on both sides before starting an alignment job. The tire pressure warning system uses the wheel speed sensors. The front sensors were revised in September 2003, and all-wheel-drive (AWD) models use different rear sensors.

All that said, normal maintenance is no harder than any other Toyota. If the vehicle is used for towing, change gear oil and transmission fluid as noted, and don't forget to lube the universal joints on AWD models.

There are a few technical service bulletins (TSBs). If the tire pressure warning light stays on, the fix usually only requires initialization of the system, but it may also require a new brake actuator assembly. After a cold-soak in freezing temperatures, a no-start and/or MIL illumination with P0300, P0171, P0174 may be caused by the design of the fuel pump assembly, not a failure of the pump itself. Install a new assembly.

MIL illumination with P0171, P0174, P2195, P2197 may be caused by a faulty oxygen sensor, and a revised sensor has been developed, but test the sensor first to make sure it's functioning properly.
