Automechanika Frankfurt has been chosen by Delphi Technologies to reveal its new aftermarket strategy following separation from Delphi Automotive in December 2017.

Automechanika Frankfurt, (September 11 – 15, Hall 4.0, Stand C12) has been chosen by Delphi Technologies to reveal its new aftermarket strategy following separation from Delphi Automotive in December 2017. The global supplier of advanced powertrain technologies intends to build on its Original Equipment (OE) capability to help its aftermarket customers take advantage of exciting new opportunities during a period of unprecedented change.

“Our industry is changing more quickly than at any time over the past 100 years,” states Alex Ashmore, president, Delphi Technologies Aftermarket. “As a leading OE manufacturer, we have a detailed understanding of the new technologies that will be coming into garages very soon; but that is only half the picture. The automotive aftermarket has its own accelerating technology roadmap, with updates and information in the cloud, complex diagnostic systems and much more. These changes are happening now, affecting us all. It’s one of the most exciting times to work in this industry.”

At the end of last year, the company became Delphi Technologies, following the spin-off of its core powertrain and aftermarket divisions from Delphi Automotive, now Aptiv. Its comprehensive technology portfolio, including fuel injection systems, power electronics and control systems for conventional, electrified and fully-electric passenger cars and commercial vehicles, is helping the world’s top automakers make cleaner, more reliable and more efficient vehicles.

“This intimacy with OE technology gives us a depth of expertise that has already proven to be of considerable value to our aftermarket customers,” explains Ashmore. “The successful diesel service programme, for example, is now being replicated for GDi, one of the fastest-growing areas of high-technology maintenance for the independent aftermarket. As an OE supplier, we understand the considerable challenges of servicing a system that works at high pressures and is manufactured to aerospace tolerances. That means some very special diagnostic and repair systems and top-quality parts to ensure efficient, trouble-free repairs. With Delphi Technologies as their partner, garages can now have a profitable, fast-growing business in a sector that is expanding rapidly.”

New products and brand to be revealed at Automechanika

Visitors to Stand C12 in Hall 4.0 will be able to see many of these new technologies and to discuss them with Delphi Technologies specialists. Alongside the new GDI components and diagnostic tools will be examples of 48-volt electrification, another fast-growing area where Delphi Technologies has substantial OE business. Less complex, but equally significant, is a new steering range to also be launched at the show.

“Many suppliers believe quality is defined by the product in the box. We believe it is also defined by the quality of the relationship,” says Jean-Francois Bouveyron, vice president, Delphi Technologies Aftermarket, EMEA. “That relationship is built on delivering everything our customers need to be successful, from diagnostic tools to training and technical support. We pride ourselves on the thought that goes into understanding what makes the difference for our customers and you will see more evidence of this as we accelerate our rate of new product introductions.”

The new steering range is an example of this rigorous approach. “We know how valuable a technician’s time is and how disruptive it can be if a repair cannot be completed in one go,” says Bouveyron. “So we have put everything needed for the repair in the box. You’ll see a lot more of this ‘thinking like the customer’ across all our ranges.”

This new focus is embodied in a new, single Delphi Technologies brand, shared by OE and Aftermarket. “When garages receive Delphi Technologies components, they will be in the same branding as the components installed on the assembly line,” concludes Ashmore. “This is now one business, sharing its deep understanding of vehicle technologies to help make all of its customers successful.”

Other highlights on the Delphi Technologies stand include:

  • New reman and repair capability for the latest generation diesel fuel injection technology including C4i injector repair.
  • An extended engine management portfolio with significant improvements in sensor coverage.
  • A full-service solution for steering with all the parts needed for right, first-time fitment in the box plus a comprehensive new catalogue.
  • A new OBD diagnostic tool offering seamless, quick and intuitive diagnostics for key vehicle systems, across a wide range of makes and models.
