LAS VEGAS — A new look over the last year continues to roll out as Permatex, part of ITW Global Brands, brings not only new packaging but innovative ideas to today’s shops.

Sean Lyon, director of marketing for Permatex, says the redesigned “shopability” of the gasketing, service, adhesive and sealant products’ packaging makes it easy for the technicians to see what the product is for and how they should use it. There are noticeable changes that make a difference.

For example, on the company’s Ultra line of gasketing products, Lyon explains the  new packaging features a plastic tube, unlike the previous aluminum ones that would crack or cure. There also is no cardboard, and the bottle shape allows it to stand on a technicians’ work bench.

“It’s easier to shop,” Lyon says of the products’ new looks.

The new package features an updated design with an overall look that is consistent across the entire family of products, yet distinguishes between product categories for easy recognition, according to the company. Background colors were selected to help attract attention and add impact to the brand. Avoiding information clutter and clarifying the product’s function and key applications as quickly as possible were also prime objectives of the new design

It goes beyond new looks, though, as he also says Permatex has added new lines for silicone tape and epoxy sticks, “an addition to our portfolio that rounds out our epoxy line,” Lyon states.

Permatex High Temp Epoxy Stick is a temperature resistant, titanium-reinforced epoxy that can be used to bond and repair metallic materials exposed to high temperatures up to 500 ºF. It sets in just one hour, and after eight hours can be drilled, sanded, threaded, machined, or painted. The finished repair resists water and many types of solvents. Typical repair applications include engine block repairs, tail pipes, exhaust manifolds, machinery, and mufflers.

Permatex Fuel Tank Repair Epoxy Stick is an industrial strength epoxy used to repair metal gas tanks and containers. It is resistant to most solvents and features a unique, ethanol resistant formula. Permatex Fuel Tank Repair Epoxy Stick sets in just one hour, and after five hours, can be drilled, sanded, threaded, or filed. The finished repair is able to withstand moderate temperatures and does not shrink after application.

“We’re trying to come out with some innovative new products,” he says, adding that the company partnered with a third party think tank to help come up with 150-plus new ideas. While not all will make it to market, it helps create and capture value for Permatex’s users.

That leads into the nearly dozen new products the company will roll out in 2015.
