Atlas Copco Compressors challenge customers to evaluate compressed air systems for energy savings

Atlas Copco Compressors challenges shops to evaluate potential savings from upgrading their  compressed air equipment.
Atlas Copco Compressors is challenging U.S. manufacturers and automotive shops across the country to evaluate their compressed air usage in order to determine the potential savings from upgrading to more technologically advanced equipment. The catalyst for this challenge is Atlas Copco’s recent product launches, including the new GA VSD+ range, which represents the company’s dedication to reducing global energy conservation through innovative, energy-efficient technology. “In the last 12 months, Atlas Copco has released numerous products that incorporate innovative, patented technology that significantly reduces energy consumption,” said Paul Humphreys, vice president communications and branding, Atlas Copco Compressors. “With the launch of the GA VSD+, we are challenging all compressed air users to participate in a free compressed air system analysis in order to realize the energy savings and benefits of upgrading their facility’s equipment.” In addition to the GA VSD+, Atlas Copco has released new product technologies across its entire offering including a full range of oil-sealed vacuum pumps with integrated screw technology for general industry applications, a new range of oil-free multistage centrifugal blowers and new ranges of nitrogen and oxygen generators for on-site gas generation. Quality air products were enhanced with a new range of heat-of-compression desiccant dryers that utilize zero purge cooling to eliminate compressed air consumption and a new heat-of-compression rotary drum dryer that delivers 100% flow capacity and eliminates compressed air loss due to purging. Additionally, Atlas Copco released SmartLink, a 24/7 monitoring technology available to all compressed air users. Yet, even with these technological advancements, a recent poll conducted by Atlas Copco Compressors revealed that 64% of plants surveyed had not made any changes to their compressed air system in the last two years. While compressor technology has evolved, a large number of facilities are not yet benefitting from the potential energy savings that come with technology upgrades. “Our data show that the new GA VSD+ could save a manufacturer or auto body shop more than $10,000 per year based on just one 15 horsepower machine,” said Humphreys. “With the variety of new products available in a full range of sizes, Atlas Copco will calculate a customer’s payback time for switching to a more efficient technology. You do not have to be consuming thousands of kilowatts for our new technology to translate into real savings.”

To demonstrate the potential savings to customers, Atlas Copco has launched an energy savings ticker on their website and a direct mail campaign that shows the amount of energy a company could have already saved by upgrading to the GA VSD+. With the launch of the challenge, Atlas Copco hopes to convince manufacturers to evaluate their current equipment and make an upgrade within the next year.
