Honda recalls vehicles due to post-collision risk

Dec. 21, 2023
If the vehicle is involved in a crash, a short circuit to the power circuit can occur, causing the battery cable to overheat and increasing the risk of a fire and/or injury.

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. is recalling certain 2020-22 model year CR-V Hybrid vehicles over a potential fire risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall was announced on December 13, 2023. The issue lies with the 12V battery cables in these vehicles, which are routed outside of the body frame and do not contain a fuse on the power circuit. If the vehicle is involved in a crash impacting the left front fender area under certain circumstances, a short circuit to the power circuit can occur. This can cause the battery cable to overheat, increasing the risk of a fire and/or injury.

In response to this issue, Honda is contacting registered owners of all affected vehicles by mail. Owners are being asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer, where the dealer will replace the battery cable with an improved part.

Owners who have already paid for these repairs out of pocket may be eligible for reimbursement, in accordance with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.

For additional questions, owners can contact American Honda’s Customer Support and Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138. The recall status requires the vehicles' VIN.

Honda urges all owners to respond promptly to this recall to ensure their vehicles are safe and up to standard.

This news comes after earlier this month, Honda announced its recall of certain 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2016 and 2018-2019 Pilot, 2017 and 2019 Ridgeline, and 2018-2019 Odyssey vehicles.
