Organized by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd and the China National Automotive Industry International Corporation (CNAICO), this international trade fair covers a diverse range of products and services from both OE & aftermarket industry sectors including parts and components, accessories and tuning, new energy and remanufacturing.

A new visitor record is expected with more than 70,000 buyers attending the show. This year, the show is welcoming new international groups from Romania, Russia and Tunisia. Purchasing departments of transportation management bureaus and official fleets from Beijing and Sichuan will also send buyer groups to the show to source for aftermarket products.

Other visitors will include 1,000 specialists from 4S shops and repair workshops. Among them is the Fujian buyer group which is 25 percent larger than last year.

Commenting on the expected record visitor number, Jason Cao, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd says, “The show is gaining more strong support from leading international and local trade industry associations and government agencies from across the automotive spectrum. Among our new supporters is the Beijing Automotive Maintenance and Repair Trade Association which will further help to make the show’s repair and maintenance section even more dynamic in the areas of product R&D and technology training as well as information exchange.”

Xu Zhong Lian, Secretary-General of the Beijing Automotive Maintenance and Repair Trade Association added: “The pressing issue facing the domestic automotive industry is how to satisfy the increasing needs and standards of the automotive car care industry’s equipment, technologies and management. The main reason for bringing a delegation to Automechanika Shanghai is because we value the quality assistance that the show can provide with their automotive industry chain resources. These resources include access to the latest domestic and overseas products and services, the wide range of fringe programs, as well as industry networking opportunities, which are excellent platforms for helping our members to understand market dynamics, acquire new product and technology information, and promote industry communication.”

Many new events added to the fringe program line-up

In addition to the show’s regular and highly popular fringe program line up, exhibitors and visitors will benefit from many new events covering all sectors of the industry such as the Automotive Aftermarket Summit 2012 and its theme Innovating and Adjustment of the Service Mode. This has been co-organized by Automobile & Parts, part of the Shanghai Oriental Auto Magazines Agency Co Ltd (OAUTO) since 2009. This year marks the first time co-operation with the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association China (AASA) and the event is targeting all domestic and international industry sectors.

Commenting on the summit, Lionel Vautrin, Chairman of China After Forum (CAF), which is part of AASA said: “Our co-operation is due to Automechanika Shanghai’s recognized reputation and professionalism in the industry for many years. The show is a professional platform for industry information exchange which creates win-win business opportunities. This summit will focus on sections of the aftermarket parts supply market and the latest market development trends, particularly on the innovation and modification of the end users service mode.”

This year’s show will see a new event called New Energy Vehicles & Green Maintenance. Its theme Opportunities and Challenges for Automobile Repair and Maintenance Industry focuses on the opportunities arising from an increasing demand for energy conservation and new energy vehicles in the repair and maintenance industry sector.

This debut event looks at how the auto repair and maintenance can meet industry demands for higher equipment standards, technologies, and management. It is co-organized with the Auto Maintenance and Repair Magazine and supported by the Shanghai Automobile Maintenance & Repair Trade Association, the Beijing Automotive Maintenance and Repair Trade Association and the Fujian Motor vehicle Maintenance Trade Association.

An event highlight for accessories and tuning sector is the Shanghai International Automotive Carnival 2012 which offers many networking opportunities as well as information and technology exchange opportunities for specialists working in the accessories and tuning industry sectors. This program covers many accessories products including AV system, car modification and tuning as well as insulation film. Activities include Car Modification DIY Show, China IASCA Car Audio Competition, Automobile Accessories Brand Show, Car Tuning Display, "Android" System for the Car Audio and Video Electronics Industry Forum and the Car Insulation Film Technicians Competition.

Another major show highlight is the first ever NextGen Auto International Summit China, developed as a thought leadership conference. It will focus on innovating strategies, technologies, services and applications that promise to help the automotive industry’s transition to a more sustainable, profitable future for OEMs, suppliers and service providers across the industry value chain. The summit will take place 11 – 13 December 2012 at the Kerry Hotel which is next to the showground and more than 500 senior industry executive decision makers are expected to attend as well as local representatives from key government ministries, municipalities and influential research institutes.

Many industry leaders have been invited to speak at the summit and one high-profile speaker will be Christian Heep, Director of the Federal Association for eMobility (BEM), Germany. BEM aims to increase electric mobility and the use of renewable energy in order to bring society closer to a future that is less dependent on fossil fuels. His speech is titled Establishing Electric Mobility and Supporting Infrastructure. BEM will also invite many industry related associations and organizations to meet with local government at the New Energy Zone during the show to promote Chinese and Western industry development and information exchange.
