The Automotive Sales Council just wrapped up its fall 2019 meeting in Chicago, which was attended by more than 70 members. A robust agenda included Mike Broderick from Advance Auto Parts, who laid out a clear roadmap of what AAP is doing in the retail and commercial space they service.  Scott LeProhon from GPC gave the members a view into their domestic and global distribution strategies. Both answered questions from the members covering many different topics related to their business.

Josh Meyer from LKQ gave the members a detailed explanation of how LKQ goes to market, what they expect from vendors they do business with and how they serve their customers. It was a content-rich presentation.

Each fall meeting includes a presentation from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. William Strauss examined key economic indicators and the effect — good or bad — they could have on the aftermarket.  It is a session that is always enjoyed by the members.

In addition to regular council business, five new board members were elected to serve two-year terms.  Ed French, John Casanova, Mark Thorpe, Joe Stephen and Jayme Farina will all begin their two-year terms at the winter board meeting. Outgoing President Jeff Darby handed the gavel to incoming President Mike Fiorito, who will begin his one-year term at the winter board meeting.

The Automotive Sales Council was formed in 1958 and is limited to 100 members. Members consist of aftermarket sales and marketing executives. The council meets twice a year, and meetings focus on timely subjects and issues facing the automotive aftermarket.

Future meetings will address warranties and the shortage of mechanics and feature high profile industry presenters. If you have an interest in participating, contact David Caracci at [email protected].
