Due to exhibitor and visitor demand, Automechanika Shanghai, Asia’s largest trade fair for automotive parts, equipment and service supplier is extending to a four-day event, running from Dec. 8 – 11, 2010. The fair is organized by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) and the China National Automotive Industry International Corporation (CNAICO).

“As the fair is becoming bigger and as exhibitors and visitors want to further maximise their opportunities during the show, Automechanika Shanghai 2010 will become a four-day event,” says Jason Cao, General Manager, Messe Frankfurt Shanghai.

Having firmly established itself as the preferred sourcing destination for the automotive industry, Automechanika Shanghai has not been affected by the global economic slowdown.  In 2009 exhibitor numbers increased 22 percent to a record high of 2,414 exhibitors.  They came from 24 countries and regions to showcase their latest products on 103,500 sqm of exhibition space.  Visitor numbers increased 25 percent to record-breaking 38,551 visitors from 132 countries and regions. Half of the visitors had full purchasing authority.

Increased exhibition space to cater for strong demand from exhibitors
In response to an enthusiastic demand from exhibitors, the fair will expand to 130,000 sqm of exhibition space in 11 halls plus the building of temporary halls. That means an increase of 25 percent in space compared to the 2009 event.

To date, nearly 80 percent of the exhibition space has been taken up and six overseas pavilions from Germany, Korea, Malaysia, Spain, Taiwan and the USA have been confirmed.  The German pavilion is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in cooperation with Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA).  The Spanish pavilion is organised by Sernauto, the Spanish Automotive Equipment and Components Manufacturers Association and supported by ICEX – Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade, and the USA pavilion is certified by the US Department of Commerce.

Special events such as the Automobile Maintenance Equipment Dealer Convention, Forum on China Auto Repair Industry and Chinese Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers and Distributors Networking received a good response from buyers in maintenance and aftermarket sector last year.  As a result, Automechanika Shanghai 2010 is receiving more bookings for larger booth space from suppliers of these sectors.

Helping buyers to enhance sourcing and networking efficiency, special halls will be set up for the following products:
- Powertrain
- Chassis
- Electrics / Electronics / Sensor Systems
- Bodywork / Interior / Tuning and accessories / Standard parts
- Workshop equipment and tools / Painting systems / Car care

China remains world’s largest auto market
According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, China's vehicle production and sales hit a record high of 4.55 million and 4.61 million units respectively for the first quarter of 2010, up 77 percent and 72 percent respectively year on year.

Industry experts predict that China’s automobile market in 2010 will maintain a growth rate between 15 – 25 percent to 17 million vehicles and it is expected to grow by 1 million units in each of the next 10 years.

With China’s automotive market becoming more mature, the portion of sales in the aftermarket is growing.  Experts predict that China’s automobile aftermarket will reach RMB 190 billion (USD 27.85 billion) in 2010.  In addition, the total vehicle population in China reached 76 million in 2009.  As a result, analysts forecast the automobile maintenance industry will generate an annual growth of 10 –15 percent.

Automechanika Shanghai is one of 14 global Automechanika fairs held in Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Africa.
