The third annual Automechanika Shanghai is scheduled to take place Dec. 5 - 7 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. The conference, which is an important sourcing ground for products, has gained a reputation as one of China's leading professional forums for the automotive parts, components and aftermarket industry.

Automechanika Shanghai will feature a complete range of products for the automotive original equipment and aftermarket, from low- to high-end, from basic to high tech. In line with the profile of the global Automechanika brand, products on display include parts and systems, accessories and tuning, repair and maintenance, and service station and car wash. More than 700 exhibitors are already confirmed, doubling the size of the fair from last year to over 46,000 sqm.

More than 12,000 trade visitors from 97 countries and regions visited Automechanika Shanghai 2006, a 38 percent increase from the previous event. An onsite survey showed that around 90 percent were involved in purchasing decisions. An impressive 25 percent of all buyers were from overseas (around 3,000). Most foreign buyers were from Korea, Russia, Australia, Malaysia and Taiwan, with significant numbers of people also coming from India, the United States, Italy, Turkey and Japan.

China's automobile population is expected to reach 55 million by 2010. At that time, around 40 percent of the nation's vehicles will be at an age where they require a higher level of service and maintenance. It is predicted that China's auto service market will reach a value of 154.2 billion Yuan (US$19.51 billion) by 2010.

The auto after-sales sector has been fully opened to foreign firms through China's World Trade Organization (WTO) commitments. Auto giants such as Volkswagen, Ford and Mercedes-Benz, all have authorized distribution and maintenance to local partners by launching 4S stores, dealing with sales, spare parts, services and surveys. Global operator's expansion in the auto after-sales sector will help stabilize the domestic repair and maintenance market and introduce world-leading technology to China.

In 2005, China's export of auto parts exceeded US$10 billion. China aims to lift the value of its vehicle and auto parts exports to US$120 billion, or 10 percent of the world's total vehicle trading volume, over the next decade.

Automechanika Shanghai is organised by Messe Frankfurt in partnership with the China National Automotive Industry International Corporation. More information about this event is available online.
