Mike Hanley, retired global automotive leader of EY, was presented the Triangle Award by the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association and its light vehicle aftermarket division, the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) Oct. 5.

This year marks the 40th year the Triangle Award has been awarded by MEMA. Since 1974, it has been presented periodically to that person, persons or organization who the membership choose to honor for selfless contribution to the motor vehicle parts supplier industry. Hanley and Michael Cardone Jr., owner and chief strategy officer, CARDONE Industries, are the 2014 recipients.

“Mike has provided substantial thought leadership and industry analysis to MEMA and its divisions, and his insightful discussions at our events have always ranked among the top-rated and most popular presentations,” said Steve Handschuh, president and chief executive officer, MEMA. “He has been a staunch supporter through many firsts for AASA and a valued partner through our formative years as AASA has grown as a platform for industry dialogue and an agent for change.”

Hanley retired from EY on June 27 of this year, culminating 36 years of service to global automotive clients. During his tenure at EY, he was responsible for managing the firm’s Global Automotive Center in Detroit and for developing the firm’s automotive industry strategy and initiatives worldwide.

“Mike’s thought leadership, along with his passion for and commitment to our industry, has made him a trusted colleague and friend to aftermarket leaders, and made EY a respected partner to motor vehicle component suppliers,” said Bill Long, president and chief operating officer of AASA. “He exemplifies the spirit of the award and is truly deserving of our association’s highest honor, the Triangle Award.”

Cardone received the Triangle Award at the Motor & Equipment Remanufacturers Association (MERA) Golisano Conference, held on Sept. 24, 2014, in Rochester, N.Y.
