Ford has selected 3M™ Panel Bonding Adhesive PN08115 and the 3M™ File Belt Sander as approved products for repairing the new Ford F150 aluminum cab pickup. As word of the new Ford F150 pickup rolls out across the country, collision repair professionals are preparing for the new repair tools and techniques needed for the high-strength aluminum vehicle. Now, 3M Panel Bonding Adhesive and 3M File Belt Sander are approved solutions for their repair challenges. 3M and Ford have had a working relationship for almost a century, especially in the collision repair industry. From abrasive discs and masking tapes, to structural adhesives and seam sealers, 3M products have been an integral part of keeping Ford Tough. High-strength aluminum panels used in the Ford F150 require new repair methods and tools like 3M™ Panel Bonding Adhesive PN08115 and the 3M™ File Belt Sander. High-strength aluminum panels used in the Ford F150 require new repair methods and tools like 3M™ Panel Bonding Adhesive PN08115 and the 3M™ File Belt Sander. 3M Automotive Aftermarket Division has been developing solutions for repairing the aluminum used in this vehicle for several years. When the next generation Ford F150 hit the drawing boards, 3M was there to work with engineers at Ford’s Paint and Body Technical Center on solutions for manufacturing the truck and to help make sure collision repairers would have the right tools and materials in place before the vehicle even launched.

"In order to make sure that repairs to the new truck were straight-forward and reasonable for mainstream collision repair facilities, Ford engineers worked with collision industry leaders, including 3M, during the development of the Workshop Manual,” said Jason Scharton, 3M’s Business Development Manager for OEM/Collision Repair.

For nearly 20 years, 3M Panel Bonding Adhesive has been the performance standard for exterior panel adhesives, and its selection for the next generation Ford F150 shows that experience matters.  A two-part epoxy adhesive which provides extended work-time but can be rapidly cured with heat, 3M Panel Bonding Adhesive has excellent adhesion to a wide variety of plastic and metal substrates and can be used to bond door skins, roof skins, quarter panels and box sides. It is available in 200 mL, 50 mL and 400 mL cartridges.

Additionally, Ford has approved the use of the 3M File Belt Sander for grinding out self-piercing rivets, removing seam sealer and preparing surfaces for rivet-bonded repairs.  3M worked closely with Ford in the development of Ford’s Collision Repair Workshop Manual and the 3M File Belt Sander is included in Ford’s Aluminum Use Hand Tool Kit.  The 3M File Belt Sander is available with 3M™ Green Corps™ Abrasive File Belts and Scotch-Brite™ Durable Flex Belts in a variety of sizes and grits.

These solutions, and others, for rivet-bonded repairs are available at participating distributors. For complete details, call 1.877.MMM.CARS, contact your 3M Distributor or 3M Sales Representative, or visit the website at www.3MCollision.com.
