Baker's Collision Repair Specialists has been in operation by family members since it was founded by Mervin and Esther Baker in the fall of 1953.
Ohio State House Representative Mark Romanchuk, with his wife, Zoi, and Tammy Puff, representing Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, presented certificates of recognition to Baker's Collision Repair Specialists, Inc., during an Oct. 5 Open House to celebrate Baker's 60 years in business. Also in attendance was Mansfield, OH, Mayor Tim Theaker.
Baker's has been in operation by family members since it was founded by Mervin and Esther Baker in the fall of 1953. Starting out in a two-car garage on Snyder Street in Mansfield, it has now expanded to its current 40-stall facility, which has been located on Fifth Avenue since 1956.
Honorable dignitaries, customers, family and friends participated in facility tours. During the tours, Paint Team Leader Allen Eckert and his paint team displayed the painting process, Mike Morris, Nate Fogle and Brian Finley, all structural steel technicians, demonstrated the frame and unibody repair equipment and process. Parts Manager Chad Miller described how Baker's just-in-time parts ordering works. Appraiser Mike Linger gave details of what happens in the “Blue Printing” step, and Structural Steel Technician Jim Steele explained the changes in welding over the past 60 years; he had examples showing the improvements and the importance of the Resistance Welder.
In the Service Department, Mechanical Technician and Suspension Specialist Frank Damude demonstrated Baker's computerized alignment system. He also answered questions regarding specialty equipment; of special interest was the “Road Force” Tire Balancer.
Many NASCAR fans were in attendance and enjoyed talking with John, from Roush Racing, about the 3M and Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes Sponsored #16 Greg Biffle Stock Car and hearing the engine roar to life.
Massage Practitioner Ashley Lefever offered massages to visitors for a donation to the Richland County United Way.
Matt Boggs, husband of Baker's Controller Laura Boggs, was the grill master. He was kept busy cooking hot dogs and bratwursts, which the guests enjoyed.
The Grand Prize of an iPad was won by Mr. & Mrs. Blake Wagner, Sr.
