The new system formulation provides excellent color match, as well as blending and application characteristics, the company said. It also exhibits superior product performance in areas where high or low humidity is an issue. It also features new inventory-friendly packaging and labeling designed to minimize ordering and maximize productivity.

“Sherwin-Williams is constantly making strides to improve product quality,” says Louisa Meijer, the company’s Global Product Manager for Vehicle Refinish. “The recent AWX Performance Plus formula toner updates now provide better sprayability, appearance, and performance. As a result, our new product lays flat and smooth, providing an excellent final finish.”

The AWX Performance Plus Waterborne Refinish System is available with two reducers to accommodate various ranges in humidity, designed to help ensure proper application and superior product performance. These are key attributes, as humidity variance is typically one of the key challenges to waterborne refinish system application.

“Being located just 50 miles north of Houston, we understand the potential problems using a waterborne system in a high humidity environment,” states Billy Coleman, General Manager, Gullo Ford, Conroe, Texas. “With the new AWX Performance PlusTM Waterborne Refinish System, humidity has not been an issue. Together with excellent color match and metal control, we have fast flash times and great hiding that enables our painters to actually speed up booth time.”

Increased speed and production time is another benefit with the new AWX Performance Plus Waterborne Refinish System. When used in tandem with Sherwin-Williams HPC 15/HPC 21 Clearcoat – which air dries in just 15-20 minutes (at 75 degrees F) – the entire paint process can go from prime to shine in less than 50 minutes, the company said. Furthermore, these new clearcoats require no bake cycles, allowing shops to turn booth heat off. This creates a savings not only in time, but in energy as well.

The AWX Performance Plus Waterborne Refinish System is especially suited for high volume collision centers. The system is designed to provide excellent coverage, alignment with the Sherwin-Williams PROSPECTOR® Color Reference System, and is suitable for both spot and overall repairs.

The new AWX Performance Plus Waterborne Refinish System provides select toners in gallon sizes. This helps higher volume shops to minimize toner order frequency. In addition, the new system features improved product packaging, allowing for first-in, first-out inventory management, faster color identification and quick-find toner selection. The system’s new label designs include easy-to-read formula labels and convenient QR codes that will direct smart phone users directly to the AWX Performance Plus website.

“At Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes, we strive to develop innovative solutions to meet the diverse needs of the vehicle refinish industry. Every day, our top chemists are developing new and innovative products to improve the shop owner or manager’s ability to efficiently repair vehicles,” adds Meijer. “Most importantly, we’re providing compliance without complication. As shops transition to a waterborne refinish system, at each step we will be there with superior products, training, and service to increase their productivity and profitability as we move forward together.”
