ASE names new officers, governors for 2013

Rob Barto, Manager, Technical Training Design, Nissan North America, Franklin, Tenn., is chairman; Glenn Dahl, Senior Coordinator, Technical Education, Bridgestone Retail Operations, Bloomingdale, Ill., is vice chairman; Greg Gaulin, Owner, Gaulin’s of Williamsville, N.Y., is treasurer, and Mike Durkin, Director of Dealer Service and Warranty Operations for General Motors, Warren, Mich., is secretary. Mike Phillips, V.P, Training, NAPA Auto Parts/Genuine Parts Company, Atlanta, serves as past chairman.

“2012 was a year of significant change for the ASE certification program as we fully implemented the computer-based testing (CBT) format,” said Tim Zilke, ASE President & CEO. “The successful transition was guided by the leadership of the ASE board, whose work is vital to ensuring the ASE program keeps pace with our changing industry. We are grateful for the commitment of ASE’s all-volunteer board and the ongoing support by the companies that encourage such talented people to serve. With such ongoing support from the industry, ASE continues to improve the high- quality certification program our automotive professionals rely on to demonstrate their commitment to excellence.”

Also announced were newly elected members to ASE’s Board of Governors, representing various segments of the industry. The new Governors are: Bryan Gregory, Director, Training & Team Member Engagement at Advance Auto Parts; Mike Hasinec, VP of Maintenance Support for Penske Truck Leasing; Glen Nicholson, Director of Retail Education & Quality Assurance at TBC; Brad Pellman, President of Pellman’s Automotive, Inc.; Dan Planz, Technical Training Manager for Volkswagen of America, and Russ Stein, Owner of Stein Automotive, Inc.

“I’d also like to offer our sincere thanks to our outgoing board members for their service over the years,” Zilke continued. Stepping down as their terms expire are Leo Hughes, Manager of Technical Field Operations for Ford Motor Company, and Mike DeSorbo, VP, National Accounts at CARQUEST. “Leo and Mike volunteered their time to serve on the ASE board to the benefit of our industry and the thousands of automotive service professionals who proudly wear the ASE Blue Seal. We thank them for their service and wish them continued success.”

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence was established in 1972 as a non-profit organization to help improve the quality of automotive service and repair through the voluntary testing and certification of automotive technicians and parts specialists. Today, there are more than 360,000 ASE- certified professionals at work in dealerships, independent shops, collision repair shops, auto parts stores, fleets, schools and colleges throughout the country.
