Thermal Dynamics®, an ESAB brand, announced that its Cutmaster® 58 handheld air plasma cutting system, a reintroduction of the Cutmaster 52, is now available and has been upgraded to include the industry-leading SL60 QD 1Torch™ as standard. The power-to-weight ratio of this 60-amp, 43-lb. unit appeals to fabricators, general and mobile contractors, farmers, maintenance and repair personnel and truck/autobody shops. It can pierce 5/8 in. mild steel, stainless or aluminum metal and has a maximum sever capacity of 1-1/4 in. (view cutting capability video).

“The Cutmaster 58 features a classic design known for reliable operation in rugged conditions,” says Kris Scherm, Global Manual Plasma Business & Product Director, ESAB. “The Cutmaster 58 now comes standard with the SL60 QD 1Torch™. QD stands for quick disconnect, which enables selective replacement of either the torch handle or cable, saving money if one becomes damaged and needs replacement.” Scherm explains that the classic design of the Cutmaster 58 features several elements. First, its tubular “roll bar” protects the front and rear of the power supply and makes the unit easy to carry. Second, color-coded LEDs on the front panel indicate gas pressure status and setup errors. Third, the On/Off switch is on the front panel. Fourth, it accepts 1ph or 3ph, 208 – 480V primary power, offering location flexibility. The Cutmaster 58 offers a purge mode for clearing the gas line and setting gas pressure, as well as three process modes: standard cutting mode, trigger latch mode (which allows the operator to release the trigger to prevent hand fatigue during longer cuts) and expanded metal mode (which instantly reignites the pilot arc while cutting expanded metals such as grates and chain link fences). “The Cutmaster 58 offers excellent gouging performance,” adds Scherm (view gouging tips video). “For gouging, set the control knob to the expanded metal mode. If the cutting arc extinguishes as a result of excessive torch manipulation, it will instantly reignite the arc.” The Cutmaster 58 is covered by ESAB’s 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, which provides purchase protection any time with the first 100 days of purchase. The unit includes an industry leading 4-year warranty on the power supply and a 1-year warranty on the torch.
