The next Heavy Duty Leadership program will bring together mid-career professionals in the commercial truck aftermarket for a week of business, management and leadership education. The program, now in its fifth year, will be held July 10-15 on Northwood University’s campus in Midland, Michigan.

Heavy Duty Leadership is open to any early- to mid-career management-track professional in the commercial vehicle aftermarket. The program’s curriculum is designed to foster professional development of the next generation of heavy-duty parts distribution, manufacturing, service, association, and fleet management leaders.

“Each year, I am impressed with the quality of attendees in Heavy Duty Leadership,” explains University of the Aftermarket Director Brian Cruickshank. “This creates a rich, collaborative learning environment for all participants as we tackle the toughest issues that industry leaders must face in the coming years.”

Heavy Duty Leadership grew out of the industry’s need to develop the next generation of business leaders. The industry simply did not have a formal leadership-development program for this segment. This unique initiative brings together the next generation of industry leaders for a week of university-level education. Heavy Duty Leadership stands apart from other programs because focuses 100 percent the commercial vehicle aftermarket.

Heavy Duty Leadership courses are taught by recognized industry leaders in collaboration with faculty from Northwood University’s DeVos Graduate School of Management and the University of the Aftermarket.

Areas of study covered in the July session will include:

  • Global competition
  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • Industry supply chain trends and challenges
  • Team management and development
  • Strategic management
  • Developing business strategy in multi-channel markets
  • Industry case studies
  • Leadership
  • Networking
  • Top guest speakers from the commercial vehicle aftermarket
  • Business skills, such as accounting and finance

The curriculum features a blend of industry analysis, discussion and debate of new challenges and competitive strategies, individual skills training in team management, leadership roles, strategic thinking and planning, and more.

Program tuition is $2,995 and includes all instruction, materials and meals. Affordable and convenient on-campus housing is available. Those interested in attending the program are encouraged to contact the University of the Aftermarket as early as possible, as class size is limited and last year’s class sold out early. Participants will receive 3.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) that can be applied toward industry education certificates.
