Hutton, regarded as one of the most accomplished and talented painters in the custom car world, used several PPG brands to attract the judges’ eyes. ENVIROBASE® High Performance Basecoat, Magnesium Silver (code 904978) and DELTRON® DCU2021 Urethane Clear gave the car its exterior luster. The engine bay received Pepper Grey (code 931611) and finished with GLOBAL REFINISH SYSTEM™ D8115 Matte Clearcoat, and the interior was painted with custom-mixed Envirobase High Performance coatings to match the oxblood leather.
With his contribution to winning the Barrett-Jackson Cup, Hutton can add another prestigious award to an impressive collection of honors. He has won the Ridler Award three times—in 2005, 2007 and 2013—and has received several Street Rod of the Year, Custom Rod of the Year and America’s Most Beautiful Roadster awards along with many other top prizes. Hutton established his painting credentials early in his career with appearances on the Discovery Channel’s American Hot Rod, TLC’s Overhaulin’ and on Hot Rod TV.
The Barrett-Jackson Cup was established in 2013. The Ultimate Best of Show award brought with it a prize package worth almost $60,000. Cars entering the competition were reviewed over a three-day period by a trio of well-respected custom car world personalities including builder and PPG devotee Bobby Alloway, hot rodder Pete Chapouris, and Bob Millard, general manager of the International Show Car Association (ISCA). The three judged an extremely competitive field and announced the Bubbletop’s victory in a ceremony on the Barrett-Jackson auction block.
