CLEVELAND, OHIO — Today, PPG celebrated the completion of its new advanced automotive adhesives and sealants laboratory in Cleveland, Ohio, with an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The new research lab is located within PPG’s existing 42-acre manufacturing and research complex on Cleveland’s west side. The lab includes state-of-the-art equipment for testing product strength, flexibility, adhesion and sound dampening characteristics of a full range of structural adhesives, sealants and related products used in passenger cars, light trucks, SUVs and commercial vehicles. The facility also will play an important role in the development of next generation adhesives and sealants required for electric and autonomous vehicles.
With more than 700 full-time staff, PPG’s Cleveland facility develops and manufactures all coating layers used by global vehicle manufacturers, including Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Kia, Mahindra, Mazda, Nissan, Tesla and Toyota.
Keith Johnston, PPG technical director, North America, led the research lab tour where lab technicians demonstrated various forms of testing technology and how PPG sealant and adhesive products are used in vehicle manufacturing.
At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Gary Bennet, senior global general manager, adhesives and sealants, shared, “We’re excited to have the advanced automotive adhesives and sealants laboratory in Cleveland to have access to top talent and to be at the forefront of new trends in the automotive space.”
