Mitchell International becomes ARA associate member

Dec. 11, 2013
Mitchell, a leading provider of software and services to the automotive claims and collision repair industries, has joined the Automotive Recyclers Association.
The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) is pleased to announce that Mitchell International, Inc. has joined the Association and is the most recent associate member of ARA. Mitchell International is a leading provider of software and services to the automotive claims and collision repair industries.
"We are delighted that Mitchell has become part of the ARA family," says CEO Michael E. Wilson. "This announcement formalizes the constructive working relationship that ARA and its members have had with Mitchell International over the years. The ARA looks forward to our mutual efforts with Mitchell International and other stakeholders in the estimatics’ community to increase the availability of original equipment (OE) recycled automotive parts in estimatics platforms used by repair professionals. As highlighted in the Association’s strategic plan, ARA is committed to the enhancement of members’ access to and supply of more reliable, consistent, and accurate parts data.
"Access to quality OE data, as well as enhancing insurance-quality parts data through greater utilization of the ARA parts grading codes, standards and certification programs is a top priority," he adds.
Inclusion of OE recycled automotive parts in estimatics platforms is crucial to the continued success and growth of the professional automotive recycling industry. Drivers in the United States submit nearly 25 million automobile insurance claims each year — and insurers, consequently, spend an estimated $100 billion annually to address those claims. Most insurers and automotive repair shops use specialized computer software to estimate the cost of repair or the value of vehicle replacement in the event of a total loss.
Today, all major automobile insurers and the vast majority of the approximately 40,000 repair facilities subscribe to one or more estimating software "estimatics" products.
"Mitchell is committed to providing the industry with access to a broad network of salvage yards for both parts specification on an estimate and salvage assignment," says Greg Horn, VP of industry relations for Mitchell International. "Parts can be obtained from over 4,000 salvage yards, and insurers can connect to more than 350 salvage yards for monitoring and managing salvage-related activities. We are pleased to join the ARA, a dynamic organization that has historically provided valuable parts standards and certification programs to better quantify automotive parts and parts suppliers level of performance to consumers and auto repair professionals."
