What was the September question and answer?

Technician A says that an empty DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tank can result in a “no start” complaint. Technician B says that the quality of the DEF fluid in the tank should be checked when SCR system faults are noted. Who is correct?

A.  Technician A

B.  Technician B

C.  Both A and B

D.  Neither A nor B

You’re correct if you answered C!

When the DEF tank runs dry, a countdown clock starts and if the tank is not refilled prior to the end of that countdown, the vehicle will not start. Additionally, the quality of the DEF is critical to the operation of the catalyst. Poor quality or contaminated fluid can lead to system DTCs.
