Advice on trucking your way toward additional sales is certain to be forthcoming from the Feb. 9-11 Commercial Tire, Retread & Recycling Conference (CTRRC) at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Fla.

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) is gearing up for the event by bringing back the Retread Appearance Contest. In addition, hotel registrations are now open to all interested attendees.

The Retread Appearance Contest will be held at the TIA Pavilion, which will be part of the TMC Show at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. In a twist from previous years, the 2009 Best of Show awards will be voted on solely by the TMC fleet attendees. The winners will be announced on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the close of the show.

“With the additions of the TIA Pavilion and the Retread Appearance Contest, we’re hoping that all of our commercial and retread members will be encouraged to participate in the 2009 CTRRC,” says Roy Littlefield, TIA executive vice president.

“The Retread Appearance Contest will be an excellent opportunity for the retread industry to show North America’s top fleet maintenance executives the quality of today’s truck tire retreads,” he notes. “And, by giving the fleet attendees the chance to vote for the Best of Show awards, the winners will be chosen by the people who actually buy the products."

In order to keep the focus on the most popular commercial truck tires, rim diameters will be limited to 17.5-24.5 inches with cross-sections of 315 millimeters or less, but retreaders of wide-base truck tires can submit entries if they are accompanied by an acceptable display stand meeting specified safety standards. Best of Show winners will be selected in two different categories: Mold Cure and Pre-Cure. (Only retreads meeting all of the judging criteria will be guaranteed a display spot at the TIA Pavilion.)

TIA member Shamrock Marketing in Louisville, Ky. has once again agreed to receive and store the entries prior to the contest; the deadline is Dec. 31.
