Gordon's Hummer finished second at Stage 8 of the
Dakar Rally and then clinched the Stage 9 victory
by a minute and 38 seconds over race leader
Stephane Peterhansel.
Competitors were faced with a variety of terrain
including canyons, hills and perilous silt-beds
known as “fesh fesh.”
Gordon’s teammate, Nasser Al-Attiyah, was chasing
Gordon in second place after Checkpoint 2;
misfortune then struck as Al-Attiyah’s Hummer was
sidelined with a mechanical problem. Al-Attiyah
won Stages 2 and 7 while finishing third in Stage
3 of the rally.
