Industry veteran Tony Molla will join the staff of the Automotive Service Association (ASA) beginning May 11 as its new vice president.

In this just created position for ASA, Molla will participate in industry events and build industry relations, including those with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). He will work closely with the Mechanical and Collision Division Operations Committees on their projects and activities, as well as perform many other duties, including the Secure Data Release Model (SDRM).

Dan Risley, president/executive director of ASA, said the contributions Molla brings to the table will benefit ASA in its future.

“ASA is poised for growth and adding a well-respected industry veteran with all-star caliber talent such as Tony will benefit ASA members and the industry. He embodies our philosophy and approach of working together with the industry, and we are fortunate to have him join our team,” says Risley.

Molla is currently the vice president of communications for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in Leesburg, Va., where he has worked for 15 years. Prior to joining ASE, Molla spent nine years as the editorial director of Motor Age magazine and Automotive Body Repair News (ABRN).

He is an ASE certified automotive technician, past president of the Automotive Communications Council and a regular presenter and moderator at many annual industry events. Molla is an honorary lifetime member of the Mobile Air Conditioning Society Worldwide (MACS) and an associate member of the Society of Automotive Engineers.

He welcomes his new responsibilities and looks forward to extending ASA’s reach and prominence in the industry.

“My personal relationship with ASA goes back many years, and I am honored to continue my service to the industry as part of Dan’s management team. As the premier industry association representing automotive service and collision repair businesses, ASA has a key role to play in giving a voice to those who keep America moving, and I’m excited at the opportunity to help grow the organization for the benefit of our members and the industry at large,” said Molla.

With more than 35 years of experience in the automotive service industry, Molla has a thorough understanding of automotive service, having worked at all levels from technician to service manager. His background in communications developed after becoming the automotive technical editor for the Chilton Book Company, writing service manuals. He has authored more than a dozen technical and car-care manuals for both professional technicians and consumers.

Molla will be based in Virginia, with a long-term plan of moving to North Texas, where ASA’s national headquarters is based. He may be contacted at [email protected] or at (703) 470-3243.
