This precision specialty instrument speeds automotive maintenance and repair analysis and diagnosis — enabling the thorough inspection of engines, cooling systems and other densely packed, hidden or inaccessible areas without the need for disassembly. Use The VIPER 1700 for a range of jobs, such as:
• detecting and diagnosing problems, defects or damage in chassis, suspension, transmission and more
• inspecting internal engine components (e.g., gas and diesel cylinders) for carbon deposits, wear, corrosion and component failure
• easily accessing under dash, A/C and heating systems
• checking brakes without removing the wheel
• inspecting gear boxes, fuel injector nozzles, hydraulic assemblies and more
• detecting cooling system leaks or blockages in radiators and engine blocks.

The VIPER 1700 comes standard with a 5.5mm (0.22 inch) diameter, 1m (3.28 feet) long VGA resolution (640 x 480 pixel) soft metal probe with a stainless steel camera head. The camera-tipped probe features light boost, anti-reflection and 90° image rotation, and offers a depth of field of 10 to 300mm (0.4 to 12 inch) with a 60° field of view. The probe and camera are water, oil and dust proof to IP67 standards. Interchangeable probe options abound in lengths from 1m (3.28 feet) to 22m (72 feet) and include soft metal and flexible-obedient probes, ultra-slim probes and switchable front/side view probes. For complete information, visit www.generaltools.com/probeoptions.

Four forward-facing LEDs illuminate your inspection target. To minimize glare, the user can opt to use two angled LEDs that provide indirect lighting. The VIPER 1700 features a 3.5 in. (88.9mm) color monitor for real-time viewing and a removable 4GB SD card for recording video and still images. The system console enables brightness and contrast control, horizontal mirroring and 2X zoom as well as slow-motion and fast-forward video playback. Dual output jacks allow before/after image comparisons.

See The VIPER 1700 at Booth 35011 at AAPEX 2012, October 30-November 1 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas. The system will be on display and available for order.
