The New York State Consumers' Right to Repair Act of 2011
(NY S 129) was recently introduced by Sen. Jose R. Peralta,
D-13. It was referred to the Committee on Consumer
Protection. The New York legislature is scheduled to convene
on Jan. 5, 2011.
The bill is a continuation of the efforts on the Motor Vehicle Owners Right to Repair. It is important to note that no state legislature or the U.S. Congress has approved the Right to Repair Act despite being considered for a decade at the state and federal levels.
ASA opposes this legislation and encourages New York state independent repairers and consumers to contact their state legislators to express opposition. To view full text of the bill, visit ASA’s legislative website at www.TakingTheHill.com.
