The future of auto aftermarket distribution may ride on e-tailing strategies

The automotive aftermarket is at a crossroads because it remains to be seen on how e-tailing will affect it. Will there be collaboration between suppliers and resellers on this subject or will they choose to go it alone?

Aftermarket Business World columnist Larry Silvey says the automotive aftermarket is at a crossroads due to e-tailing in his column, “The state of automotive aftermarket e-tailing.”

Virtually all aftermarket suppliers and resellers are implementing e-tailing strategies. Those who don’t embrace the channel will be left behind in the future as sales through that channel increase.

Some suppliers are unsure about their role in e-tailing because they don’t want to compete with their customers. Other embrace the channel and the opportunities it presents. Silvey says suppliers must walk a fine line between helping their customers and offering products available wherever customers want to buy them.
