How did you choose your current shop management system?

Our previous system was very robust, but the one thing it lacked was online capability, which is important to us. A friend who’s an industry council member mentioned PMattendant and I decided to give it a try. What really sold the program for us was when they added the Carfax QuickVIN feature. The whole system is easy to use and because it’s online, I can use it anywhere, even on my PDA.

What improvements in your business have you seen since using QuickVIN?

We’re saving at least $4,000 annually just in equipment costs. There’s no more expensive scanners to keep track of or replace. Plus, if we’re busy and have a line, I’ve got guys waiting around to use the scanner before they can start working. Bottom line is we’re saving money, we know exactly what vehicle we’re working on and are getting customers in and out faster.

How important is having the QuickVIN feature built into your SMS?

You better get on board because this is the future. You should definitely capture the VIN in your program. PMattendant with QuickVIN gets it for you.

We see other quick lubes not using QuickVIN or scanners, which leads me to believe there’s a high percentage not capturing VINs or entering the correct vehicle info, which can lead to trouble down the road. Plus it’s unprofessional if you’re listing the wrong equipment on the service receipt.
QuickVIN is convenient, it’s instant and there’s no maintenance. We’re spoiled now.
