Weaver Auto Parts car raffle raises $40,000 for veterans

Weaver Auto Parts in Sauk City, Wis., raised more than $40,000 from their recent car raffle. Proceeds will be used to help area veterans.

“We want to thank all of our great customers and everyone in the community that participated in this raffle.” said Mark Weaver ,president. “It is though their support that we are able to honor our local veterans.”

Weaver Auto Parts is a warehouse and 17 affiliated stores that are located in and around Madison Wis.  Founded in 1972 and affiliated with National Pronto, they cater to wholesale and retail customer’s auto parts customers in the south central area of Wisconsin

The money will be donated to the Veteran’s Assistance Foundation in Tomah and used to help area veterans. The VAFs mission is to identify and address the issues faced by veterans who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness.  According to Chris Hanson, VAF President, the raffle money will be used to provide transitional housing, rapid re-housing, homelessness prevention services and access to benefit services for veterans and their families in the state of Wisconsin.  

The car that was raffled off was a rare 1979 Hurst Olds. The car was shown at various car shows across south central Wisconsin. Raffle tickets were also available at all 17 Weaver Auto Parts locations.  The car was purchased from Weaver employee Tom Mabin and was originally bought at the Ballweg Oldsmobile dealership in Sauk City in 1979.

Bob Hendricks of Baraboo Wis.,. was the winner of the raffle. Not only has Hendricks won a piece of Olds and Hurst history, but a vey nice ride By combining the gold-anodized wheels and the Hurst Dual/Gate shifter, the AM-FM/8-Track radio with a solid Olds 350, it is a treat to drive.

“All of us here at Weaver Auto Parts are honored to help our veteran’s that have served us so well,” Weaver said. “We want to sincerely thank everyone that purchased a ticket.”
