The Auto Care Association today announced the promotion of Joe Register to Vice President, Emerging Technologies, where he will be instrumental in changing the association’s profile in setting vehicle technology standards by working with his global counterparts in industry standards-setting organizations such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and SAE International.
Register joined the Auto Care Association’s Technology department in 2016, serving as director, technology solutions, and brings more than two decades of experience in data and information technologies to the association. In his role as director, Register was charged with moving forward initiatives that serve the entire aftermarket industry through the development of automotive solution designs. Register was instrumental in the development of Auto Care standards such as iShop and Internet Parts Ordering (IPO) and has long been a passionate supporter of all the Auto Care standards, including the Aftermarket Catalog Exchange Standard (ACES) and Product Information Exchange Standard (PIES), part of the Vehicle Information Portal (VIP).
The Auto Care Association’s emerging technologies team, as part of the Technology department, focuses on identifying potential opportunities and threats that recent vehicle technology innovations like Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS), adaptive lighting technologies, adaptive cruise control, automated braking, automated parking, blind-spot detection, crash avoidance and embedded software systems may present to our industry, and works with members of the Auto Care Association and the broader aftermarket community to address these issues.

In his new role within the association’s Technology department, Register and the emerging technologies team will be responsible for bringing the aftermarket perspective to vehicle technology development as these new technologies are designed and introduced to the marketplace.
