Continental Commercial Vehicles & Aftermarket offers a new online video to help educate current and prospective VDO RoadLog owners about the purchase and installation processes.

Continental Commercial Vehicles & Aftermarket, a leader in Electronic On Board Recording (EOBR)/Electronic Logging Device (ELD) technology, offers a new online video to help educate current and prospective VDO RoadLog owners about the purchase and installation processes.

VDO RoadLog is an easy, affordable compliance tool that can help protect CSA scores, as well as assist with trucking operations such as vehicle maintenance logging and inspection reports, the company said.

What to Buy
This Buyer’s Guide video covers the equipment required to make the RoadLog system operational for a variety of different sized fleets. It details what fleets and independent contractors need to purchase, including a VDO RoadLog EOBR/ELD, an installation kit, and Fleet Software to analyze and archive driver data. Included with the Fleet Software is a RoadLog Fleet Key, which is needed for company identification, as well as for fleet owners to keep track of their trucks. The Fleet Software comes with two RoadLog Vehicle Licenses, which is required for each truck. A Driver Key will also be required for each individual driver. The video also explains the Internet and computer hardware requirements that need to be met in order to operate the Fleet Software.

EOBR/ELD Installation
The video reviews VDO RoadLog’s remarkably quick and simple hardware installation process and includes instructions on placing, wiring and mounting. It emphasizes the importance of purchasing the proper installation kit to fit each individual vehicle’s data port connector, so wiring and mounting can be completed properly. Although installation is simple in most instances, the video warns that many older vehicles don’t have a data port connector and will need to use an open wire cable. If an open wire installation is needed, it’s recommended that a service professional do the job.

Helps carriers and drivers protect CSA scores
The VDO RoadLog EOBR/ELD sets the standard for overall simplicity and cost-effectiveness. It offers fleets and independent operators an all-in-one solution for daily log book and other compliance reporting. Drivers can record and report Hours of Service (HOS) as well as other key compliance data quickly and easily. VDO RoadLog is a complete regulatory compliance system that can help carriers and drivers protect their CSA scores, so they can qualify for the most profitable loads and lower insurance rates.

VDO RoadLog is the most affordable electronic log on the market, the company said.. In addition to no monthly fees, there are also no long-term contracts or smartphones required. Because it can produce an instant paper log, VDO RoadLog helps drivers get through roadside inspections and back on the road faster and easier than any other electronic log. VDO RoadLog also generates mileage reports for IRP / IFTA reporting requirements as well as compliance data for Vehicle Inspection and Repair Maintenance (DVIR).

VDO RoadLog is easy to use and installs in as little as 15 minutes, the company said. It can automatically track the driver’s time in one of four categories: On-duty, Driving, Sleeper Berth or Off-duty. It provides a warning if allowable limits will be exceeded. At the completion of a trip, the driver can download the data, which includes hours of service, vehicle inspections, shipping document and asset updates, to a Driver Key (USB) and then transfer that data to the Fleet Management Software database.

The educational videos are part of a comprehensive library of informative, how-to and training videos, which are designed to support the VDO RoadLog EOBR/ELD program. The program currently features six videos, including one about HOS Compliance, an EOBR/ELD Mandate Solution, an EOBR Buyers Guide, a Quick Start guide, an EOBR/ELD installation tutorial, and tips for law enforcement.

All of the videos are available at www.vdoroadlog.com and can be easily viewed from laptops, tablets and mobile phones.
