The award is an annual tribute to the PPG collision center technician receiving the highest score on the ASE Painting and Refinish test. Other qualities such as on-the-job excellence and community service can factor into the award. This year, 336 PPG candidates vied for the honor.
“Every year we are challenged to select just one person, when so many are deserving, for this special and highly competitive award,” said PPG’s Evans. “This year Kevin Reyer stood out with his exceptional credentials. PPG and ASE are proud to recognize his accomplishments. He has earned this award.”
Reyer, employed by Sheboygan Chevrolet in Sheboygan, Wis., since 1988, has been an automotive refinish technician for 31 years and has established a reputation for meticulous, high-quality work.
“I was shocked when I found out I won,” said Reyer. “Being named technician of the year was an honor and a surprise.”
Reyer maintains his certification through regular PPG and ASE training courses. Outside work, he serves the community as a volunteer firefighter in nearby Johnsonville.
“We are proud to partner with PPG to recognize Kevin’s commitment to excellence in providing the very best in collision repair services to his extended community,” said ASE’s Zilke. “Kevin represents the best of the best.”
PPG has been a sponsor of the Master Refinish Technician of the Year Award since 1996. PPG and ASE offer master technician certification as well as a broad range of training courses for collision center personnel. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) was founded in 1972 as a nonprofit, independent organization dedicated to improving the quality of automotive service and repair through voluntary testing and certification of automotive professionals.
