Hunter-Reay, Sherwin-Williams take first at Indy 500

June 9, 2014
Ryan Hunter-Reay finished first at the 2014 Indianapolis 500, sporting an ULTRA 7000 basecoat-clearcoat refinish system by Sherwin-Williams.
Ryan Hunter-Reay won the second closest Indianapolis 500 in history this past weekend, finishing just 0.060 seconds (less than a car length at 220 miles per hour) ahead of his closest competitor, Helio Castroneves. Hunter-Reay’s Andretti Autosport teammates Marco Andretti, Carlos Munoz, and Kurt Busch were also right in the hunt, finishing the race a close third, fourth, and sixth, respectively. All four of the Andretti cars gleamed as they crossed the famed all-brick finish line, thanks to the ULTRA® 7000 basecoat-clearcoat refinish system provided by Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes.

In addition, other entries sporting Sherwin-Williams® finishes at the 98th running of the iconic 500 included the fifth Andretti Autosport entry driven by James Hinchcliffe, as well as four cars competing from Target Chip Ganassi Racing, driven by Scott Dixon, Ryan Briscoe, Charlie Kimball and 2013 defending race champion Tony Kanaan.

For years, some of the biggest names in racing have trusted their race car finishes to Sherwin-Williams. “Several IndyCar Series teams and over a dozen NASCAR® teams currently use Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes. In fact, Sherwin-Williams is now the Official Automotive Paint of NASCAR,” said Bobby Moody, Director of Motorsports for Sherwin-Williams. “But regardless of the racing series, we aim to help all teams cross the finish line and ensure that their cars and their sponsors always look good circling the track.”
