Raising the bar and cash for your benefit

Jan. 1, 2020
We felt it was an opportunity to build a stronger future for the nation's repair shops, so we've added a philanthropic element to the TPR program.
As the leading trade journal covering the collision repair community we are always on the lookout for ways to improve upon what we do. That might mean analytical coverage of important news events, such as the recent Keystone-LKQ merger featured on our cover. Or it might mean a valuable supplement, like the one inside covering Shop Design & Construction. This month, though, we've added a couple changes for your benefit and a healthier industry.

This issue contains an important change related to technical content that we believe will raise the level of coverage we present each month. We are launching a program called Technical Peer Review, or TPR, for certain articles within the publication. What does that mean, you ask? To sum it up, we have implemented a review process for technical features that we think will raise the level of technical information each month.

Before technical articles run in print we will have them read by experts in the industry (your peers)who know the subject matter and can thoroughly critique the content before a story is published. What we want to do is answer all questions and verify content before a story makes it into a given issue. We want reviewers to help us create informative, thought-provoking coverage that will benefit your business. And most of all, we want to come away with stories that are 100-percent accurate.

You'll find a "TPR"logo beside stories that have been reviewed. In this issue, for instance, our Metal Shop story on B-Pillars was examined by I-CAR and an Ohio shop owner who knows a thing or two about frame work. Our UV-paint piece in Paint Shop was edited by RadTech members who have a thorough knowledge of the UV-paint process. RadTech is an association focused on UV technology.

Another aspect of this program is that it will not just be about presenting sound technical content. We felt it was an opportunity to build a stronger future for the nation's repair shops, so we've added a philanthropic element to the TPR program. In order to get expert advice and quality input from reviewers each month we have agreed to pay $50 per reviewer. However, in lieu of payment, reviewers are given the option of allowing us to donate that money on their behalf to the I-CAR Education Foundation. Beginning this fall at the International Autobody Congress & Exposition (NACE)in Las Vegas, ABRN will make a special donation to the I-CAREducation Foundation on behalf of all TPR participants for the past year.

The foundation's mission is to secure donations that support philanthropic and collision repair education activities that promote and enhance career opportunities in the industry. We feel it is our duty to help bring new blood into the marketplace, for the betterment of shops everywhere.

One final note that might interest you is that reviewers for these stories will change each month. The more people we involve in the process the stronger the content will be. So for anyone interested in offering their "editing" skills to help raise the bar on content, please let us know. We'd be happy to get your input and let you become a part of our editorial team.
