The Track Green Garage scoring tool lets collision shops monitor their facility’s performance on a continual basis according to the practices of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Green Building Standard. The web-based tracking software provides ongoing feedback and supplementary information so they can measure and monitor their performance. The sustainability measures for non-intrusive utility monitoring are consistent with the parameters of the SCRS Energy Star Partnership with the EPA. To qualify for "Silver" in the energy efficiency portion of the measures, a shop must be at least 10 percent better than a selected baseline between 2006 and 2011.

“Green practices provide both site specific and community-wide benefits through savings associated with energy, water, and resource management as well as the reduction of pollutants, said Steven Schillinger, President of GRC-Pirk. The many green improvements completed by shop owners in recent years have provided significant data on the benefits of environmental responsibility and sustainability in the automotive service industry.”

Schillinger emphasized, “Green collision centers create economic efficiencies for owners and operators, increase real estate value, and reduce the tax burden associated with infrastructure because they use urban resources more efficiently as a result of load reduction and the need for expensive infrastructure upgrades.”

Green Garage measurements follow standard real estate underwriting practices known as “Green Building Assessment Protocol for Commercial Buildings." This ANSI standard represents one of the most scientifically advanced and robust green building rating systems in the U.S. It takes a holistic approach to green buildings with seven areas of assessment: Management, Site, Water, Energy, Emissions, Indoor Environment and Resources.

“When it comes to caring for our customers and their vehicles, demonstrating a strong sense of environmental responsibility is increasingly important for collision repair facilities,” stated Aaron Schulenburg, SCRS Executive Director. “It is more than simply a marketing tool to use with a more environmentally conscious customer base, but rather a mentality shift that produces very tangible benefits for the business while appealing to an important social issue that is being demanded by the marketplace. The all around benefits from embracing the sustainability movement are very positive for repairers, and we are proud to help bring solutions such as this to our membership.”
