Through CARSTAR’s partnership with iPods for Wounded Veterans, citizens around the country have donated electronics such as iPods, e-readers and iTunes gift cards to benefit military members recovering from their injuries as part of CARSTAR National Military Month, held annually in November to recognize the country’s military members for their service. CARSTAR representatives from the many of the CARSTAR auto body shops in the Seattle region presented the donations to representatives at VA Puget Sound hospital to say “thank you” for their commitment to protecting the country’s freedom.

“It means a lot when people come to visit and say thank you to us,” said U.S. Marine Marty Luna, who now works in the transportation pool for the VA Puget Sound, thanks to his progress in his recovery.

Luna’s sentiments were seconded by U.S. Marine Jason Poole, who thanked the “super cool guys” from CARSTAR for the presentation of the iPods and thanked them for their support.

Poole and Luna, both injured overseas, were on hand to represent the veterans recovering at the hospital. Also attending were troops from the U.S.S. Nimitz. They were joined by Jeff Huneycutt, Director, Voluntary Service, VA Puget Sound Health Care System; Michele Larsen, Voluntary Services Specialist, VA Puget Sound, and Amanda Bieber- Mayberry, OEF, OIF, OND Program Manager, VA Puget Sound Health Care System. Representing CARSTAR were Jeff Middleton, owner of Exhibition Automotive CARSTAR, Ballard Collision CARSTAR and Complete Collision CARSTAR; Rosanna Segers, marketing manager for the Seattle region; Gabriela Amaral, owner of CARSTAR Magic Auto Solutions; Bob and Linda Bjorneby, owners of Bob Bjorneby’s CARSTAR; Patti Bjorneby, general manager of Bjorneby’s CARSTAR Des Moines; Todd Miller, owner of CARSTAR Eastside Auto Rebuild; and Dale Hastings, field service director for CARSTAR, and Brent Biggerstaff, regional service manager for CARSTAR.

“At the Puget Sound CARSTAR Business Group, we always like to work with our local veterans,” said business group leader Todd Miller. “We appreciate what they do for us, and are honored to be able to recognize them through programs like Recycled Rides and iPods for Wounded Veterans.”

iPods for Wounded Veterans is a charity dedicated to helping wounded service men and women by providing a diversion and easing the boredom of recovery by donating iPods, iPads, eReaders and other materials that improve their quality of life.

VA Puget Sound is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 1-A tertiary health care system with two primary divisions – the Seattle and American Lake VA medical centers – providing services to Veterans throughout the Pacific Northwest. Care is also delivered through seven community based outpatient clinics and a mobile medical unit. Last year, it provided care for over 91,000 patients.
