Service King Collision Repair Centers® is set to host nearly 30 high school students Tuesday (Feb. 2) inside its San Antonio repair center on San Pedro Ave. for a first-hand look at a career in the automotive repair industry. The behind-the-scenes access is part of San Antonio’s revival of the city’s official Job Shadow Day. It will mark the city’s first official Job Shadow Day in more than a decade.

Service King is one of 59 area employers participating in the event, sponsored by San Antonio Works and Junior Achievement, as area businesses will provide approximately 1,700 area teens from across San Antonio and Bexar County an opportunity to shadow professionals across a variety of industries.

“The Service King team is honored to welcome the future of our industry inside one of our local repair centers,” said Jason Peel, Service King’s Market Vice President for San Antonio. “We’d like to thank the city of San Antonio for providing students the opportunity to gain a first-hand look at the collision repair industry and for being proactive in their professional development. There are ample opportunities available in collision repair and this is a great step forward in illustrating those as an opportunity for our team to give back the community and our local students.”

A majority of students scheduled to attend Tuesday’s event at Service King attend Holmes High School and are currently enrolled in an automotive course. As part of the job shadow experience, students are scheduled to meet with and learn from Service King teammates across various roles of the repair center including technicians, service advisors and painters.

The goal of the four-hour training event is to provide students with a look and feel for the full operation of a premier collision repair center. Service King also invited several students from area colleges. Many of Service King’s San Pedro teammates attended area high schools and colleges, including a painter who graduated from Holmes High School.

Service King, celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2016, currently operates 11 locations in the greater San Antonio area and 80 across the state of Texas. The company provides motorists with a superior collision repair experience through completing high quality repairs and working to place the customer at the center of the repair experience.

Service King is currently in the midst of an aggressive military veterans hiring initiative, Mission 2 Hire, in which the company has pledged to hire at least 500 veterans and family members in the next five years.
