WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Automotive Service Association (ASA) is urging Rhode Island auto repair shop owners to contact their state senators to ask that they support Senate Bill 899, legislation that would prohibit insurers from having an ownership interest in an auto body repair facility in Rhode Island.

Introduced by Rhode Island state Sen. Paul Moura (D), the legislation would protect the rights of consumers and small businesses in the state of Rhode Island. Ownership interest by insurance companies is seen as being in direct conflict with a consumer's right to choose. ASA opposes insurance companies having an ownership interest in automotive repair facilities.

Repairers should visit ASA's legislative Web site, www.TakingTheHill.com, to view the language of RI S.B. 899 in its entirety and to send a letter of support. Click on "Insurer-Owned Repair Shops" on the left menu.
