NSF International, a global organization with 70 years of certification and testing experience, has certified more than 900 TYC Brother Industrial Company Ltd.’s (TYC) lamps via the NSF Automotive Collision Replacement Parts Certification Program. These 900 TYC lamps can be used in 3,800 vehicle applications. TYC is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of automotive, motorcycle, truck and bus lighting products.
The NSF certification of 900 TYC lamps represents a 30 percent increase in the number of certified parts available in the market covering more than 16,600 applications. The certification includes testing and certifying TYC headlamps, tail, fog, corner, reverse and park lamps, and reflectors in addition to performing facility audits to make sure that these lamps, like all NSF certified automotive parts, meet rigid quality, safety and performance standards.
NSF Certified lamps are tested against NSF’s stringent requirements, which include meeting Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108 – Lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment. The standard specifies requirements for original and replacement lamps and reflective devices to reduce traffic accidents by providing adequate illumination of the roadway.
This newly NSF Certified group of TYC lamps is of great benefit to repairers, distributors and insurers. The vast majority of these certified lamps are new to market and will help body repairers make higher-quality repairs using NSF Certified lamps.
Certification Requirements
To earn certification, TYC’s lamps were independently reviewed and tested against original equipment (OE) service parts. NSF International also audited TYC’s OE-ready manufacturing facilities and quality systems to ensure that they meet or exceed each of NSF’s stringent requirements. NSF International engineers independently evaluate collision replacement parts against OE service parts to ensure the highest level of performance in terms of form, fit and function.

To maintain certification, TYC will undergo quarterly facility audits and random, in-market parts testing, validating quality and integrity.

Auto parts manufacturers are responding by choosing to pursue NSF Certification as proof of the quality of their parts, and more bodyshops and distributors continue to choose NSF Certified automotive parts.
In addition to lamps, the NSF Automotive Collision Replacement Parts Certification Program also tests and certifies fenders, sheet metal components, steel bumpers, bumper fascias, step bumpers, brackets, reinforcement bars (rebars), plastic components and absorbers.

NSF also offers Automotive Collision Parts Distributor Certification, which requires distributors to have quality management systems in place that address traceability, service and quality issues including:
- Effective records systems and inventory tracking systems to track orders and parts through the supply chain,
- An ISO 9001-certified quality management system,
- A defective parts procedure including a customer parts complaint process,
- The ability to administer a manufacturer’s recall, and
- When necessary, a formal corrective action to complaints and an immediate recall plan.
