Hypertherm introduces plasma for cutting in locations without electricity

Hypertherm is now accepting orders for its Freedom 38 PPA, an all-in-one unit combining plasma, power and air for cutting in areas without access to electricity.

Hypertherm, a U.S. based manufacturer of plasma, laser, and waterjet cutting systems, is now accepting orders for its Freedom 38 PPA, an all-in-one unit combining plasma, power, and air for cutting in areas without access to electricity.

The unit, previewed at the 2015 FABTECH Show in Chicago, combines a powerful Powermax125® plasma system with a 38 kilowatt generator and air compressor. Advantages to companies needing to cut metal in remote areas include the simplicity of operating one unit instead of three separate systems; the ability to replace current methods (oxyfuel cutting, grinding, and carbon arc gouging) with a process proven more productive, versatile, and safer; and the elimination of costs from renting and transporting flammable gas cylinders.

Cut capacity for the included Powermax125 plasma system is 1-1/2" (38mm) at a speed of 18 inches per minute and 1 ¾” (44mm) when cutting at a speed of 10 inches per minute. In addition, the system is capable of severing 2 ¼” (57mm) thick material if needed. The Powermax125 is also very capable at gouging, and can be used with a number of different torch and consumable options to suit a variety of handheld and automated applications.

“From pipeline construction and repair to deconstruction, decommissioning and plant shutdown, initial response to the Freedom 38 PPA is enthusiastic,” said Russ Diefenbach, Hypertherm’s Light Industrial product manager. “Customers really appreciate the ability to use plasma in lieu of oxyfuel and carbon arc gouging, and are really happy with the amount of work they are able to complete and the cost savings they are seeing.”

The Freedom 38 PPA is available now from authorized distribution partners in the United States and Canada. To learn more, visit www.hypertherm.com.

Hypertherm designs and manufactures advanced cutting products for use in a variety of industries such as shipbuilding, manufacturing, and automotive repair. Its product line includes plasma, laser and waterjet cutting systems, in addition to CNC motion and height controls, CAM nesting software, robotic software and consumables. Hypertherm systems are trusted for performance and reliability that result in increased productivity and profitability for hundreds of thousands of businesses. The New Hampshire based company’s reputation for cutting innovation dates back nearly 50 years to 1968, with Hypertherm’s invention of water injection plasma cutting. The 100 percent associate owned company, consistently named a best place to work, has more than 1,400 associates along with operations and partner representation worldwide.
