The Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) hosted a repair standards meeting with national repair associations, I-CAR, the OEM Roundtable and several automakers in Oklahoma City April 25. The meeting followed up on a meeting last November in which more than two dozen state, regional, national and international collision repair organizations recognized OEM repair procedures as the industry's official repair "standard" for collision repair.
This meeting advanced the unified efforts and served as an opportunity to take significant next actions in a coordinated effort by all parties by establishing a tangible working agenda and actionable items, said Aaron Schulenburg, executive director of SCRS.
"A clear takeaway from each of the meetings we have held is that the group indeed is powered with a clearly defined sense of purpose," stated SCRS Chairman Aaron Clark. "There is complete consensus that our task at hand is to ensure that collision repairers across the nation are able to easily access and attain the technical information that has been recognized as the standard of repair for our industry."
The work group established key contacts, further refined the communications strategy and developed agenda items and tasks which were assigned as internal action items. Participants exchanged reports from each of the organizations involved, including a report from I-CAR on the progress of their consideration to facilitate an industry council as request by the repair community in November of 2011.
Future meetings, timelines and work product were discussed as the groups came to consensus on the next steps to presenting easily attainable technical standards of care for collision repair.
