A panel discussion, "Insurer-Mandated Parts Procurement: A Discussion From the Frontlines," will be presented at the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of New Jersey (AASP/NJ)'s 36th annual NORTHEAST 2013 Automotive Services Show which takes place March 8 -10 at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, N.J.Like this article? The insurance industry's growing influence on the parts ordering process, including State Farm's current test program with PartsTrader, will be discussed. What does insurer-mandated online parts ordering mean to a repairer's bottom line? How might such a program affect relationships with preferred parts suppliers? These and many other questions will be explored in the March 8 seminar moderated by SCRS Executive Director Aaron Schulenburg.

Attendees will learn how programs like PartsTrader could affect all facets of the collision repair industry (from the shops to the supply chain), as well as hear firsthand accounts from shops in these platforms' test markets throughout the nation. Scheduled speakers include representatives from trade associations and shops from the various PartsTrader test market areas.

AASP/NJ President Jeff McDowell encourages shops throughout the country to take the time to attend the event and get the facts on the trend - especially if they view insurer- mandated parts procurement as something that is only affecting shops in other states.

"You don't think it's coming to your area? Just watch and see," he says. "If they push it through like they get everything else done, it'll be coming to your backyard. That's what big business does; they test the waters, and if there's not too much resistance, they apply it equally to everybody."
