Earth Day was founded in 1970 by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson to raise the visibility of what was happening to the planet and to organize support for protecting the environment. In an effort to recognize those Wisconsin businesses who have embraced the principles of sustainability, the WI Sustainable Business Council has developed The Earth Day Business Sustainability Awards. The awards are designed to honor businesses for their leadership in developing innovative products, processes, and business models while demonstrating that economic performance and environmental and social performance go hand-in-hand. The Earth Day Business Sustainability Awards strengthen relationships with customers, employees, prospective employees and the supply chain.
